Opening times and procedures

See our opening times on our ‘Contact us’ page.

Appointments are available during our opening hours. Our PCN offer a range of appointments on evenings and on a Saturday.

Automatic Check – in for pre-booked appointments

When you arrive at the surgery for your appointment, look for our “automatic check-in”. This is next to the main reception counter.

You can check yourself in with five simple steps. This is ideal for those patients who want to let us know they are here. You will still need to see the receptionist if you have any other requirements.

  • Touch the screen to start the process
  • Touch the screen to select which month you were born
  • Touch the screen to select which  date you were born
  • Touch the screen to select your first initial of your surname
  • Select “yes” if your details appear on the screen are correct

Watch the screen for confirmation that you checked in and then take a seat.

We provide

  • Morning and afternoon surgery.
  • Face to face and telephone appointments. There is a limit to how many patients we can see in a day so you may need to wait for an appointment.
  • Urgent Problems Clinic for serious conditions that cannot wait until the next day. These clinics are in the afternoons.  Please tell the receptionist what the nature of the problem is. The doctor can prioritise the return telephone calls.
  • Long term condition clinics for diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma or heart disease.  Also contraception and stop-smoking clinics.

We are not an emergency service. Call 999 or go to A + E if you have severe or life-threatening symptoms. The nearest A + E’s are at either at Colchester or Broomfield Hospitals.

We are not a “Walk-in Centre”. If you feel that you cannot wait for a surgery appointment, go to Colchester General Hospital.

We cannot provide a 10 minute face-to-face appointment for everyone who would like one.  We need you to help us by asking for a face-to-face appointment only if it is necessary.  Our GPs offer telephone appointments which are often more convenient for patients.

For help with minor illnesses, you can visit your local pharmacist, or you can call NHS 111.

Most sore throats, coughs, colds, earaches and upset stomachs will get better on their own. You do not need a doctors appointment for most minor illnesses.

Extended access appointments

Our extended hours service is from 7:30am to 8am on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. We would like to kindly remind patients that the surgery telephone lines are not manned until 8am.

GP and nurse appointments are also now available in your area during the evenings and weekends. Appointments are available 6:30pm to 8:30pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 2pm  Saturday, Sunday and over bank holidays.

Appointments are at one of 6 Mid Essex centres. There is no walk in service available. You will see the most suitable healthcare professional such as a nurse practitioner, GP or healthcare assistant.

You can book or cancel these appointments in the same way as regular ones.

Enhanced access

Out-of-hours appointments are available from 6:30pm to 8pm on weekdays, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.

We are working together with other GP practices in our local area as part of the Colne Valley Primary Care Network. You can find out more about the Colne Primary Care Network on our PCN website at: www.colnevalleypcn.nhs.uk.

An out-of-hours appointment might not be at your regular GP surgery. When you book an appointment, you will be told where the appointment will be.

These appointments will not be available as walk-in appointments. You will need to book them in advance.

To book an out-of-hours appointment, you should contact your regular GP practice in the usual way. They will advise you on the appointments which are available, and which healthcare professional is the right person to help you.

If you need medical help now but it’s not an emergency, you can also go to 111 online or call 111.

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
